The "Pirate King", Gold Roger, had acheived it all. Power, Wealth, fame. It had all been his. Not surprisingly, before they lopped off his head, the finals words he said adventurers throughout the world were inspired to sail the seas. "My treasure? Why it's right where I left it... it's yours if you can find it...but you'll have to search the whole world!". The world.. was about to witness a great era of piracy. At a small harbor village, one year ago, a pirate ship made the village it's base. Monkey D. Luffy, trying to show how tough he is so he can become a pirate, stuck a dagger below his left eye leaving a scar. Captain Shanks (AKA: Red-Haired Shanks) still wouldn't let him go with them.

While at the pub Luffy was eating a fruit and left the pub. Captain Shanks grabbed his arm and it stretched! "What? Did you eat that Gumgum Fruit!" Captain Shanks said showing a picture. The answer was yes! The Gumgum Fruit, also known as the devils fruit, was worth 1,000,000 berries! Luffy now had the power to stretch. The next day Captain Shanks and his crew left leaving Luffy behind. Meanwhile Luffy got in a fight with some moutain bandits! Thinking he could beat them he didn't Captain Shanks heard him on the shor and rushed back to help him. One single crew member beat up all the bandits except for the leader who had escaped on a boat with Luffy to throw him in the water. Since he ate the Gumgum fruit Luffy could not swim! He was kicked in the water just as a sea serpent came up and ate the mountain bandit. As it was about to get Luffy when Captain Shanks came and saved him but in the process it bit of his arm. When back at shore Captain Shanks was leaving and gave Luffy his hat. "When you're a great pirate someday, come and give me ack this hat, it's special to me". From then on luffy vowed to get a great crew, a ship and to be athe greatest pirate in the world.
